Machine Learning is a type of computer program that trains a machine to perform tasks by itself. Just like how you learn new things by practicing and getting better at them, a Machine Learning program can get better at something by practicing, too. For example, let's say we want to teach a machine learning program how to recognize pictures of a cat. We can show the program many pictures of cats and tell it, 'This is a cat.' The program will study the pictures and learn what makes a cat a cat, like its fur, ears, and tail. Then, when we show the program a new picture it's never seen before, it can use what it learned to guess whether or not the picture is of a cat. So, Machine Learning is like having a computer that can learn and get better at doing things all on its own!
